AEP Texas To Construct New Transmission Line in Permian Basin

AEP Texas is moving forward with the construction of a new transmission line designed to meet the escalating electricity needs of the Permian Basin. This initiative, recently approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, will help facilitate the delivery of increased power to the rapidly expanding region. The project is a direct result of Texas House Bill 5, a legislative mandate aimed at expanding transmission infrastructure and mitigating constraints within the state. AEP (American Electric Power), the parent company of AEP Texas, recently finalized a significant financial move, selling a 19.9% equity stake in its transmission businesses to KKR and PSP Investments for $2.82 billion. The Permian Basin, located in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, is experiencing substantial growth, driving up demand for electricity to support its prominent oil and natural gas production. Construction on the new transmission line is expected to commence soon, though specific details regarding its length, route, and overall cost are currently unavailable.
