The proposed SETEX project involves a new 500-kV transmission line extending up to 160 miles across western portions of Entergy Texas’ service area, connecting substations in Newton and Montgomery counties. The Cypress to Legend line would span approximately 49 miles between Hardin and Jefferson counties. The specific routes for both projects are still under consideration and will be determined through the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) review process.
“Our responsibility is to grow alongside the communities we serve,” stated Eliecer Viamontes, CEO of Entergy Texas. “These investments are about preparing Southeast Texas for continued growth – more families, more businesses, and more opportunities – while building a reliable grid and a solid foundation for the future.”
These projects align with Entergy Texas’ Southeast Texas Energy Plan (STEP Ahead), a long-term strategy focused on supporting economic expansion, bolstering reliability, and strengthening communities. They were also identified as crucial by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), a regional transmission organization overseeing energy planning across a wide geographic area. If approved, the Cypress to Legend line is slated for completion in 2028, followed by SETEX in 2029.
Entergy Texas serves approximately 524,000 customers across 27 counties and is part of Entergy Corporation, which provides electricity to 3 million customers. The company prioritizes affordability, maintaining electricity rates below state and national averages, and is actively investing in cleaner energy sources.
