PJM Interconnection has announced that CEO Manu Asthana will be leaving his position at the close of 2025. To facilitate a seamless handover, Asthana will remain with the organization as a senior advisor to the PJM Board until June 2026.

Mark Takahashi, Chair of the PJM Board, lauded Asthana’s leadership, particularly during a period of significant transformation in the electricity sector. Takahashi highlighted Asthana’s guidance through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of market reforms, improvements to the interconnection process, and enhanced risk management protocols. His tenure saw PJM successfully maintain grid stability even during severe weather conditions.

Asthana has also been recognized for his proactive stance on grid reliability, bringing national attention to the increasing demands on the power grid.

The PJM Board has initiated a search for Asthana’s replacement, establishing a CEO Search Committee and partnering with Korn Ferry, a leading executive search firm. The selection process, which will involve seeking input from PJM members and stakeholders, is anticipated to be completed later this year. The Board is evaluating both internal and external candidates, supported by a robust internal leadership development program.

Asthana expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead PJM and its dedication to providing reliable power to over 67 million people. He cited a desire to return to his family’s home in the Midwest as the reason for his departure. The Board formally acknowledged and appreciated Asthana’s leadership and commitment.
